Our client is seeking an experienced and visionary Vice President of Engineering to lead their engineering team and drive product innovation in GPS fleet and asset management hardware solutions.

 

About the Role  

 

This critical leadership role will oversee the strategic direction, development, and execution of the company's innovative hardware products, ensuring excellence in quality, performance, and innovation. As a key member of the senior management team, the VP of Engineering will collaborate closely with the CEO and other executives to align engineering efforts with business goals and market demands. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

1. Strategic Leadership & Planning 

  • Develop and communicate a clear technical vision aligned with the company’s business strategy.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, calculated risk-taking, and continuous learning within the engineering team. 
  • Collaborate with product management to define and execute product and technology roadmaps. 

 

2. Engineering Management 

  • Lead and manage in-house and offshore engineering teams, ensuring high performance and accountability. 
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable telematics solutions. 
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top engineering talent while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. 

 

3. Product Development & Quality Assurance 

  • Provide technical direction for GPS fleet and asset management hardware development. 
  • Oversee prototyping, testing, and quality assurance processes to meet industry standards. 
  • Advocate and implement ISO-9001 and other relevant quality standards. 

 

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Work closely with product management, marketing, sales, and operations teams to align engineering efforts with business needs. 
  • Gather and integrate feedback from customers, sales, and support teams to enhance product design and performance. 

 

5. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management 

  • Ensure all hardware solutions comply with industry regulations and certifications. 
  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate technical risks and ensure business continuity. 

 

6. Technology Integration & Innovation 

  • Drive the integration of hardware and software solutions, ensuring seamless functionality. 
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and industry trends, leading research, and development initiatives. 
  • Develop and manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including patents and innovative technologies. 

 

7. Project & Vendor Management 

  • Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and reporting to ensure timely and quality deliverables. 
  • Oversee relationships with suppliers, contractors, and manufacturing partners to maintain exacting standards of production and efficiency. 

 

8. Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization 

  • Implement process improvements and agile methodologies to optimize engineering workflows. 
  • Promote a culture of innovation, encouraging teams to explore and implement innovative technologies. 

 

Qualifications & Requirements 

  • Proven leadership experience in engineering management, preferably in telematics, IoT, or GPS hardware industries. 
  • Strong background in hardware, firmware, and software development, with expertise in telematics systems. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large engineering teams and manage offshore contractors. 
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 
  • Experience with regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and risk management in product development. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
